Indigenous Visibility Measuring System (DRISHTI) Installed at Delhi Airport

Indigenous designed visibility measuring device called Drishti was installed at Delhi airport.
DRISHTI was built by CSIRNational Aerospace Laboratories, Bengaluru. It was actually developed for Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).
This is the first phase of the project. 10 airports are covered in the first phase.
What is DRISHTI?
DRISHTI is a Transmissometer. A transmissometer is an instrument for measuring the extinction coefficient of the atmosphere, and for the determination of visual range.
It operates by sending a narrow beam of energy (usually a laser) through air. A receiver at the other end measures how much energy is arriving at the detector. By this the visibility is calculated.
DRISHTI reports the runway visual range (Visual range is a critical parameter for safe landing and takeoff of aircraft) Drishti is connected by dual mode “Landline” and “WiFi” along with multiple displays at Air Traffic Control Room.
Drishti is highly precise. It requires least maintenance too.
The data from all the Drishti systems of all the runways of IGI Airport can be viewed on a single screen.
